The qMaldivian government today condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza, Palestine.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it stated that the government strongly condemns the attacks being carried out in Gaza, particularly those targeting healthcare facilities and medical infrastructure.
The statement also mentioned that these attacks have resulted in the loss of many innocent lives, including women and children, and that these are acts in violation of international humanitarian laws.
The statement noted that Israel is called upon to fully respect its obligations under international laws and to adhere to a ceasefire agreement.
The Ministry's statement also mentioned that such actions impede the implementation of a ceasefire agreement and hinder efforts being made to de-escalate the situation.
Additionally, the statement highlighted that the Maldives repeatedly calls for the full protection of civilians, healthcare facilities, humanitarian assistance providers, and public infrastructure, as well as the unhindered and prompt delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The Ministry's statement added that the Maldives calls upon the international community to take immediate and firm action to ensure respect for international laws and to support efforts toward a permanent ceasefire.
According to the Foreign Ministry's statement, the Maldives' steadfast support and solidarity for the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people will endure. This includes the right to establish an independent State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the statement noted.
