The Masjid Al-Salaam mosque in Villimale' has been closed from today onward in order to construct a new mosque on the same plot.

Male' City Council stated the mosque has been closed since the first prayer of the day.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments awarded the project to a company on 23rd November 2025.

The signing ceremony with the Fiya Foundation was held at the ministry, with the agreement being to build a two-storey mosque that can accommodate 850 worshipers.

A classroom and office space was included in the agreement as well.

The council said once the construction of the new mosque is over, it will be of great convenience to worshipers in the area.
