A pilot programme has been launched at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to help patients and their families manage treatment at home after discharge.

Ibrahim Haleem, Chief Executive of the Male' City Group of Hospitals, which manages IGMH, told Mihaaru News that the initiative aims to reduce the number of patients who are readmitted after being discharged.

As part of the programme, IGMH teams visit patients at home to provide guidance on medication, treatment and follow-up care.

Haleem said the initiative is intended to help patients recover safely at home and reduce avoidable readmissions.

The programme is currently being piloted, with its results to be evaluated before any changes are made ahead of a planned full rollout later this year.

"A pilot project to familiarise families with the treatment process and involve them in patient care is under way. The aim is to ensure that people who are discharged from hospital do not need to be readmitted," Haleem said in an interview on Sunday.
