A man has been arrested and placed in remand in custody until the end of trial for the sexual abuse of a 16 year old girl.

Police said that they received reports last Saturday of child sexual abuse of a 16 year old girl in an island under the oversight of Upper South Police.

The following day, a 27 year old Maldivian man was arrested in connection to the case.

Police said that the court had ordered that the suspect be held in remand in custody until the end of trial. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.

As the case concerns a minor, Police do not disclose the island where the incident occurred or any other identifying information.
