The decision has been made to award Maldivian engineers across 10 categories, with the regulations being publicized as well.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made the announcement last year on 15th June that a National Engineers' Day would be celebrated in Maldives.
The President made the decision to name 30th August of every year as National Engineers' Day in order to recognize Maldivian engineers and their service to the country with an award.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development announced the award regulations yesterday.
The regulations state that the awards will be divided into 10 categories:
- Engineer of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Young Engineer Award
- Engineering Innovation, Technology, Education and Research Award
- Sustainability Champion Award
- Engineering Consult / Consultancy Firm of the Year Award
- Student Innovator Award
- Community Impact Award
- Contractor of the Year Award
- Women in Engineering Award
As per the regulations, the ministry has the power to bring about changes to the categories by looking at the number of submissions and quality of the submissions.
The regulations outline as to how submissions for each category can be done, along with the requirements.
