President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Dhiyana as the Maldives' Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union.

President Muizzu presented Dhiyana with her letter of appointment during a ceremony held at the President's Office on Sunday morning.

The Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee reviewed the nomination, and presented its report in today's parliament sitting. A subsequent vote led to Dhiyana being approved unanimously through the votes of 52 MPs in attendance. 

Dhiyana holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania in Australia, a Master of Laws in Law and Political Science from Osaka University in Japan, and a Master of Laws in International Human Rights Law from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

Dhiyana has previously held several senior positions in government, the state and international organisations, including Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights, Attorney General of the Maldives, Member of the Parliament and Member of the Special Parliament.

As Dhiyana has not been in Foreign Service, she was first appointed as Ambassador at Large in April.
