The Civil Court has sentenced Heavy Load Maldives, a company former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Moosa Manik's (Reeko Moosa) has a share in, to hand over the plot rented to them and to pay MVR 4.5 million in plot rent.

A 30,000 square foot plot in Thilafushi was temporarily leased to Heavy Load on 25th November 2008.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the company that holds ownership over the plot, filed a case to the Civil Court alleging rent payments as per the agreement for the plot had not been made.

As per the case filing, Heavy Load did not hand over the plot after the agreement expired, while the company simultaneously had not been making rental payments. And so, HDC requested the plot be handed back to them, and an order be issued for rental payments and penalty fees to be paid, and that to determine that HDC has the right for compensation.

The Civil Court's ruling regarding the case stated that Heavy Load has violated the agreement.

The company has not issued any response to the court.

It was stated during the trial that rental payments and penalty fees up until 6th May 2026, as per the agreement, worth MVR 4.5 million are to be paid to HDC. The court also ordered the plot be vacated within 30 days.
