The police have started investigations into the allegations against Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s representative in the opposition coalition, Aminath Naadhira.

Naadhira and Hussain were summoned to the police on Sunday.

Huasain stated that he has been accused of disrupting the peace in capital Male, for obstructing law enforcement officers during the opposition rally held Friday and for communicating in foul language with the officers.

Naadhira revealed that she has been accused of striking a police officer and for obstructing the duties of law enforcement officers. Nadhiraa also said that she had refused to comply when the police had asked to take pictures for video analysis. She noted that this cannot be done without a court order.

Several members of the parliament are facing charges after attending the opposition rally against the government.
