Eight people who were saved from the landing craft capsizing incident near K. Gaafaru have been taken to Gaafaru.

Police received reports that the landing craft sailed from Thilafushi, began taking on water afterward and capsized near Gaafaru around 9:00 am today. There were 10 people onboard when the incident occurred, from which eight were Bangladeshi nationals and two were Maldivians.

Police said the two missing people are Bangladeshi nationals.

Gaafaru Council President Mubashir Jaleel told Mihaaru News that the eight people who were saved were taken to Gaafaru this afternoon, and that they are in good health.

"They were brought to Gaafaru around 1:00 pm and they are all fine. They are currently staying at a guesthouse," said the council president.

While maritime incidents have been occurring, the weather in Maldives today has not been favorable.

Princess Laala (Maafushi Floating Bar) safari moored off Kaafu Maafushi ran aground and broke apart on Friday morning after its anchor gave way during severe weather, and was swept towards the outer breakwater of the island's harbor after its anchor became dislodged.

According to the MET Office, a low-pressure trough over the northern and south-eastern parts of the country has generated extensive rain clouds across the western Maldives.

MET has forecast sporadic weather across most parts of the country today, with adverse conditions expected to continue over the next two days.
