Hulhumale' recorded the highest rainfall in the Maldives over the past 24 hours, according to the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office).
MET Office said 84.2mm of rain fell in Hulhumale'.
The second-highest rainfall was recorded in Baa Atoll Dharavandhoo, which received 83.5mm.
Other areas that recorded significant rainfall included:
- Alif Alif Thoddoo – 72.3mm
- Addu Hithadhoo – 70.6mm
The strongest winds over the past 24 hours were recorded in Laamu Kadhdhoo, where gusts reached 46mph.
Wind speeds of 44mph were also recorded in Dhaalu Atoll Kudahuvadhoo, while 41mph gusts were reported in Alif Dhaalu Maamigili.
MET Office has forecast winds of up to 50mph in parts of the country today.
Authorities have warned that weather conditions will remain severe, with strong winds, rough seas and heavy rain, and have urged the public to exercise caution when travelling.
In a weather update issued on Thursday, the Met Office said the heaviest rainfall is expected today.
According to the agency, a low-pressure trough over the northern and south-eastern parts of the country has generated extensive rain clouds across the western Maldives.
MET Office has forecast sporadic weather across most parts of the country today, with adverse conditions expected to continue over the next two days.
