Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has assigned land to WAMCO for temporary use so as to assist them in addressing waste management challenges in Hulhumale'.

In a post on X, WAMCO Managing Director Mujuthaba Jaleel thanked HDC Managing Director for taking the initiative and granting them the land, which he said will greatly assist them in overcoming current challenges. 

Following a major fire incident at the Thilafushi Regional Waste Management Facility, some areas of the site are currently shut down. This has forced WAMCO to limit the amount of waste they take in. 

The incident has caused disruptions in operations at Male', Hulhumale' and Vilimale' Transfer Facilities, WAMCO earlier said. 

Mujuthaba earlier said that after waste is taken to Thilafushi, they are separated into food waste, yard waste, green waste and combustible waste. The fire occurred at a site where combustible waste is stored.
