Health Protection Agency (HPA) said on Wednesday that there are currently three active cases of measles in Maldives.
Active cases refer to laboratory-confirmed patients who are showing symptoms and remain capable of transmitting the disease to others.
Last week, 20 measles cases were reported in Male', bringing the total number of confirmed cases this year to 186.
An HPA media official told Mihaaru News that there are currently 164 active contacts being monitored.
Active contacts are individuals who have had direct contact with confirmed measles patients and are monitored for symptoms for 21 days.
HPA said most of this year's confirmed cases have been among people aged over 18. A total of 1,664 contacts have been identified through contact tracing.
HPA has also launched a measles vaccination campaign. So far, 12,000 people have been vaccinated.
HPA advised the public to take the following precautions:
- Seek medical attention immediately if you develop a fever accompanied by a red rash.
- Wear a face mask when visiting a healthcare facility and avoid using public transport if measles is suspected.
- Remain in isolation until test results are available if you are being tested for measles.
- Avoid crowded places if you develop symptoms.
