Parliament has today approved the appointment of Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as Ambassador of Maldives to the European Union (EU) and Belgium. 

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu sent Dhiyana's name for approval to parliament on July 7. 

The Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee reviewed the nomination, and presented its report in today's parliament sitting. A subsequent vote led to Dhiyana being approved unanimously through the votes of 52 MPs in attendance. 

Dhiyana served as Attorney General during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed, although she later resigned. 

She then served as Gender Minister under former President Mohamed Waheed's administration. 

As Dhiyana has not been in Foreign Service, she was first appointed as Ambassador at Large in April.
