Male' City Council announced yesterday that they are seeking a party to conduct a land survey at the Alimas Carnival area. 

Interested parties are urged to seek details from the council's procurement section by August 2 and submit quotations before August 10. 

Maldivian companies, partnerships, and those with local investment and business permits are eligible to participate in the bid, the council said. 

The council stated that parties that do not attend the information session, or submit bids after the deadline, will not be considered. 

The Male' City Council announced plans to redevelop the Carnival area in July 2024. Adam Azim, who was the Mayor even then, expressed concerns at the time about the dilapidated state of the Carnival area, and the public safety risks it poses. 

Due to this, the City Council demolished the stage structure at the Carnival in 2024, and announced seeking a contractor to build a new stage. 

The work was then contracted to UH Investment Pvt Ltd through a bidding process in March last year, for a cost of MVR 4.8 million. 

However, the work had not yet commenced when the council learned about the existence of another agreement, due to which they canceled the agreement with UH Investment. 

The stage project remained idle since then, with complaints rising about the City Council's handling of official paperwork. 

The Alimas Carnival was originally developed in 2004 to celebrate Majeediyya School's 75th Anniversary. At first, the carnival featured rides for different ages and other carnival activities. Later, the stage area alone was mainly used, for music, entertainment, religious sermons and political events. However, the area has since fallen into a state of disrepair.
