Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has opened a new passenger waiting area at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport (VIA).

MACL said the new facility is part of its efforts to enhance passenger services by providing a more comfortable and convenient space for travelers. The expansion adds approximately 750 square metres of waiting space on the terminal's first floor.

The new area features a variety of seating options for passengers waiting to board their flights.

It also includes a 136 square metre children's play area equipped with multi-level play structures, safety barriers, climbing features using ropes and rings, and a ball pit.

MACL said the facility has been designed to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for families travelling with children.

A dedicated Bank of Maldives (BML) counter has also been established in the new waiting area. The counter will offer foreign currency exchange services and US dollar disbursements for Maldivian customers.

"The opening of the new space marks a major step forward in MACL's efforts to enhance services at Terminal 1," the company said in a statement.

MACL said the opening reflects its commitment to modernizing the airport, improving accessibility and placing greater emphasis on passenger comfort and convenience.
