State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Ltd (StatePharma) has today held discussions with Maldives National University (MNU) on conducting trainings for Maldivian pharmacists. 

Last month, StatePharma announced that they were seeking over 30 pharmacists. The company said that, through this, it had come to their notice that very few locals are trained as pharmacists. 

Today, senior officials StatePharma met with members of the MNU's Faculty of Health and Science and discussed avenues of increasing locals who train in the field. 

After the meeting, StatePharma said that a decision had also been made to conduct refresher courses for those currently working in the field. 

Pharmacies previously run by the STO were transferred under StatePharma from July 8 onwards. 

While STO previously handed the importation of medicine and medical consumables to Maldives, StatePharma was established to address medicine shortages faced in the country.
