Prior to the commencement of road renovation work, MTCC has conducted necessary surveys on Ameenee Magu. 

Ameenee Magu, where asphalt was previously laid, has since become severely dilapidated with bumps and potholes. Due to this, on June 15, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development contracted MTCC to renovate the road. 

MTCC said that parts of the survey which requires the asphalt surface to be cut were conducted yesterday. 

Under the project, Ameenee Magu, Izzuddeen Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu will see repairs so as to enhance public transport safety, the company said. 

In July 2022, renovation work was initiated on Ameenee Magu by the Road Development Corporation, under the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The work was conducted in several phases, and the project reached completion in early 2024.   

However, by 2025, the road surface was seeing severe damage once again, prompting several isolated repair efforts.   

MVR 84 million from the State budget was spent on laying asphalt and redeveloping Ameenee Magu. There have been previous allegations that the work had been conducted using low quality material at inflated rates.
