President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has forwarded the name of former Environment Minister and Maldives Ambassador to UAE Thoriq Ibrahim to parliament for appointment as Permanent Representative of Maldives to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). 

The president's letter nominating Thoriq for the post was read out in parliament today and forwarded to the Foreign Relations Committee for review. 

Thoriq served as Environment Minister from the administration of former President Mohamed Waheed until the end of former President Abdulla Yameen's term. He was once again appointed Environment Minister when President Muizzu compiled his cabinet. 

On February 1 last year, Thoriq was given the Tourism Ministry mandate, and remained in the position until his resignation in April this year.
