Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a white alert across the country due to forecast sea swells.

The MET Office said swell waves are expected between 10:30am and 3pm.

The alert comes a day after high tides and swell waves caused flooding and damage in parts of Male'.

The Industrial Village area was among the worst affected, with waves carrying rocks and sand onto the shore. The Raalhugandu area, which is frequently affected during periods of high swell, also experienced significant flooding. Several motorcycles parked in the area were swept into seawater by the waves.

The Carnival area was also affected, with seawater damaging parked motorcycles and cars. Waves entered cafe's along the beachfront, causing disruption.

The white alert covers areas from Kaafu Atoll to Addu City. No incidents related to sea swells had been reported at the time the alert was issued.

The Maldives is also experiencing rainy weather across several parts of the country. The Met Office has forecast that rain will continue over the next 48 hours.
