High Court has decided not to accept an appeal submitted by Saahil Ali against convictions for possession of pornography and drugs, for which he received a three year prison sentence. 

Saahil is accused in the brutal murder of Shiau Mohamed Saeed and has so far been found guilty on two charges by the Criminal Court.

Shiau was killed in a Male' residence on August 2022, and her authorities found that her body had been desecrated. Accused in the case is Saahil, who faces five separate charges. The charges against Saahil, as well as the trial hearings, are all held closed. 

The Criminal Court found Saahil guilty on two of the charges, and sentenced him to three years, one month and six days in prison. Although the Criminal Court did not disclose the charges against Saahil, the High Court registry shows that he has appealed convictions for drugs and possession of pornographic material. 

Saahil had appealed the case previously as well, but it had been rejected citing documentary issues. He resubmitted the appeal on July 23.

The High Court's registrar, however, has decided to reject both appeals, citing insufficient reason provided to appeal a lower court ruling at the High Court. 

There are still three charges pending against Saahil. While hearings have been completed, the court will hear summary statements at the next hearing. A hearing scheduled for last week was cancelled due to technical issues. 

Saahil was first assigned a state-funded lawyer, but after he refused to cooperate with counsel, the State withdrew the offer. The court has previously noted that he will no longer be provided State-sponsored legal representation.
