Police have arrested three individuals accused of smuggling over a kilo of drugs into Maldives via air travel. 

The three arrestees include a Jamaican man, Andrew Lloyd Corbin, 53, and two Maldivians, one of whom is Ibrahim Athoof, 20, of Norite-ge, N. Lhohi.

The second Maldivian was released on conditions, and police did not disclose his identity. 

Police said that Corbin was arrested last Sunday following reports from Customs that he was carrying drugs concealed on his body on his arrival in Maldives via air travel. 

Athoof and the other man were arrested on suspicion of colluding with Corbin in the drug smuggling, as well as its sales. The two were taken into custody through a special operation conducted in Hulhumale' last Monday by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence unit. 

When the three were presented in court for their remand hearing, the court placed Corbin and Athoof in remand in custody for 15 days, while the third person received a conditional release. 

As per the Criminal Court order, at the time of arrest, Athoof had thrown away a bag containing drugs in his possession and had attempted to deny any connection to the evidence. 

The second person was released after seizing their passport and placing a travel ban.
