The Maldivian government has condemned the Houthi militia's allegations against Saudi Arabia of besieging the people of Yemen, and has expressed their full support for Saudi Arabia.
According to the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that was publicized last night, the Maldivian government fully backs the statement released by Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry regarding the allegations from the Houthi militia.
The Maldives' statement reads that the government recognized Saudi Arabia's long-standing efforts in working together with the legitimate Government of Yemen and the United Nations in establishing peace in Yemen and relieving the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The ministry highlighted the humanitarian support and developmental aid being given by Saudi Arabia to Yemen.
Maldives reiterated their solidarity with Saudi Arabia, and assured their full support toward Saudi Arabia's efforts in establishing peace and safety in Yemen.
As some media have stated while referring to Yemen's Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, Saudi Arabia has allegedly been conducting a "harmful and unfair siege" on the Yemeni people for the last 12 years. He also alleged that Saudi Arabia has blockaded land, maritime harbors and aviation hubs, and are plundering the nation.
The Houthi's have issued a warning on the basis of "an eye for an eye", stating they will take maritime steps against Saudi Arabia by attacking the marine vessels that go in and out of Saudi Arabia's ports. They also said they will halt the use of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which is used by Saudi Arabia in the export of oil.
The Houthi's stated that Saudi Arabia attacked and disrupted the services at the Sanaa International Airport that is now under the Houthi's, and said they have sent missile strikes in response to various regions in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Arabian government said the allegations have no basis and are false. They said that Saudi Arabia has always provided humanitarian support and developmental aid to the Yemeni people, and will take steps to ensure peace in the maritime region.
