Three political parties have been fined for issues regarding the submission of financial statements. 

Elections Commission (EC) member Hassan Zakariyya said that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been fined for submitting the financial statement after the deadline had passed. Meanwhile, Adhaalath Party and Maldives National Party (MNP) were fined for failing to submit the statements.

All three parties were fined by MVR 50,000 each at the start of the month. 

Political parties are required to submit the previous year's annual report and financial statement within the first three months of each year. EC has fined parties previously as well for failure to comply.
