The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that 22 people contracted measles last week, bringing the total number of infected individuals to 166.

An individual infected with measles, a disease declared eliminated from the Maldives by the World Health Organization (WHO), was detected early last month.

HPA stated today that 22 people infected with measles were detected in the Greater Male' area over the past week.

Consequently, while HPA has launched a special vaccination program to protect against measles, the agency noted that 9,918 people have been vaccinated so far.

HPA has urged individuals who are uncertain if they have completed two doses of the measles vaccine to visit a vaccination center and receive the vaccine. Additionally, HPA stated that if anyone has come into contact with an infected individual, contact vaccination will be provided at Hulhumalé Hospital or the Urban Primary Health Care Centre.

According to HPA, vaccination services will also be provided during specified hours at hospitals in the Greater Male' area and at health centers across atolls and islands.

HPA has requested that if someone has a fever along with a red rash on the body, they should seek medical help at a hospital without delay and wear a mask when visiting the hospital. Furthermore, the agency urged anyone tested under suspicion of measles to remain isolated until the results are received, and to avoid crowded public places if exhibiting any symptoms of the disease.
