President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated Spain following its victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a messages to King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez following Spain's 1-0 victory over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final, President Muizzu said the country's second World Cup title was a testament to the talent, dedication and sporting excellence of the Spanish national football team.

President Muizzu said football is one of the most popular sports in Maldives and that the Spanish national team enjoys widespread support among Maldivians. He added that Spain's victory was celebrated across the country, reflecting the close friendship between the Maldives and Spain.

The president also highlighted the longstanding relationship between the two countries and expressed appreciation for the contribution made by Spanish visitors and partners to the continued growth of the Maldives' tourism industry.
