Bar Council has amended its minimum standards for law degree programmes, requiring examinations to be conducted in person.

The changes form part of amendments to the minimum standards for admission to the legal profession and for law degree programmes. They also introduce requirements for law courses to be taught in English.

The amended rules will come into effect next month.

According to the Bar Council, the changes are intended to improve the quality of law education.

Under the Legal Profession Act, the Bar Council has the authority to set the minimum higher education standards and prescribe the requirements for degree programmes needed for admission to practice law.

Bar Council is also responsible for approving law degree programmes.
