A fire that broke out at the WAMCO site in Thilafushi has finally been brought under control after firefighters spent ten hours battling it. 

According to MNDF, the fire at the WAMCO junkyard was reported at around 10:20pm last night. 

Firefighters from the Thilafushi Fire Station, as well as the Male' Fire Station, immediately responded. 

MNDF said that the it had taken firefighters until 8am today to adequately control the fire to ensure it does not spread any further. 

Firefighters are still on site, working to extinguish lingering embers, as the blaze broke out in an area packed with highly combustible waste. Owing to conditions at the site of the incident, MNDF estimates that it will take further efforts and time before the fire can be entirely put out.
