A fire broke out in the kitchen of an apartment in a Hiyaa tower in Hulhumale' Phase 2, causing extensive damage but no injuries.
Police said the fire was reported at around 1:30 pm in an apartment in Hiyaa Tower 8.
The blaze was fully extinguished by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Service personnel, police said.
According to police, the fire was confined to the apartment's kitchen, which sustained severe damage. No one was injured in the incident.
Photos released from the scene show the kitchen extensively damaged by the fire, while smoke blackened the ceiling of the living room.
The fire occurred in Apartment 6 on the 19th floor of the building.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said the apartment's five Maldivian residents have been provided with temporary accommodation and meals for three days while the damaged unit is cleaned and made safe.
