The three-year prison sentence from the Criminal Court to Saahil Ali who was charged in the brutal killing of a young woman in a Male' residence and convicted of two of five charges has been appealed.

Shiau Mohamed Saeed of Fuvahmulah City was killed in a Male' residence in August 2022. Investigators later determined that her body had been mutilated after death. The State pressed five different charges against Saahil, of Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo.

The hearings in the case are being conducted behind closed doors. Both the trial and the charges have been kept confidential at the State's request.

However, the Criminal Court stated that Saahil has been convicted of two out of five charges, for which he has been given a prison sentence of 3 years, 1 month and 6 days. Even though Saahil appealed the case previously, it was not accepted at the time due to a documentation issue.

Saahil filed an appeal regarding his three-year prison sentence last week as well, with no decision having been made as of yet.

Verdicts for the remaining charges are yet to be delivered, with a hearing for the delivery of summary statements being left. However, last week's hearing had to be canceled due to technical difficulties.

The Criminal Court has previously said that the Attorney General's Office had decided against providing further legal representation on State expense to Saahil as he refused to cooperate with State-appointed lawyers.
