Criminal Court has yesterday extended remand in custody for a man arrested in Male' on suspicion of engaging in sorcery.
The court order identifies the suspect, arrested for sorcery and possession of items used in sorcery, as Moosa Naeem, 63, of Sh. Feydhoo.
The court placed him in remand in custody for 15 days citing that he may pose a danger to society. The remand period is due to end on August 1.
According to the court order, there is sufficient evidence to support the charges against Naeem, including a police intelligence report, incident report, and photo report.
Although there have been arrests for sorcery in the past, such cases seldom reach prosecution.
