Ambulances were handed over to hospitals and health centers in 17 islands last night.
Health Minister Geela Ali presented the ambulance keys to representatives of atoll hospitals and health centers during a ceremony held at the Health Ministry.
The ministry stated the ambulances were procured to replace the ambulances at atoll hospitals and health centers that had broken down beyond repair.
The ministry also said the 17 ambulances that were brought are part of the project they handed over to Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) in December 2025, where they are to procure new ambulances for 31 islands in the atolls.
The 31 ambulances that were brought this time cost MVR 36.2 million.
The 14 ambulances from the first batch were sent to islands in March 2026. With the 17 ambulances that were handed over last night, the current government has handed over a total of 87 new ambulances to islands.
The islands where ambulances were handed over to are:

- Lh. Olhuvelifushi
- V. Fulidhoo
- V. Keyodhoo
- M. Veyvah
- AA. Bodufolhadhoo
- AA. Himandhoo
- ADh. Kunburudhoo
- ADh. Dhangethi
- L. Fonadhoo
- GA. Kondey
- GDh. Vaadhoo
The Health Ministry went on to say the required 10 paramedic ambulances in order to provide paramedic services to the Male' region and cities will be brought within this year, with services to begin in 2026 as well. The ministry also said they will bring ambulances to the additional four islands where ambulance services have been suspended and hand the ambulances over within this year.
