Maldives has strongly condemned the recent ballistic missile attacks targeting civilian sites in Saudi Arabia, describing them as a threat to regional peace and stability.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks constituted a blatant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and territorial integrity and posed a serious risk to regional security.

The statement follows the first Houthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia in four years, launched in response to Saudi assisting airstrikes on an airport under Houthi control.

The exchange has ended the four-year period of relative calm between the sides.

Maldives reaffirmed its full solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia and expressed support for measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

The government also stressed the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and preserve peace, security and stability in the region.
