Male' City Council has announced that they are searching for persons responsible for felling a full grown banyan tree in Vilimale'.

According to a post by a social media user yesterday, the tree is located in a public park in Vilimale'. The post also included photos and videos of the felled tree.

When questioned about why the tree had been felled, the Male' City Council responded that it had not been done by them.

The council said that they are now actively searching to identify who was responsible for felling the tree.

The photos and videos indicate that the area was formally closed off during the felling. Boards issued by the Male' City Council granting permission for road closure were in place, and police traffic cones and tape were used to block access. The footage also shows WAMCO staff actively engaged in cutting down the tree.
