The body of an elderly man was found in the lagoon of B. Eydhafushi this morning. 

The deceased has been identified as Ali Abdulla, 82, of Seasonge, B. Eydhafushi. 

Vice President of the Eydhafushi Council Ali Shafeeq said that the body had been spotted by the crew of a speedboat moored in the lagoon. 

He said that it is believed the deceased had fallen into the sea sometime last night. 

"We believe this to be so because he was spotted near the harbour around 10pm last night. Police are now checking CCTV footage from the area to verify this," Shafeeq said. 

He further said that although there are no visible external injuries, the body is being taken to R. Ungoofaaru Hospital for further testing. 

Police, meanwhile, have said that they have launched an investigation into the death.
