President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast for one day in mourning following the passing of former Qatar Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. 

The national flag will be flown at half-mast from 12pm, Monday, will 12pm, Tuesday. 

The President's Office said that the President decided to lower the flag to half-mast to honour the long-standing friendly relations between Maldives and Qatar. 

Late former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was laid to rest with full state honours on Sunday, July 12. 

President Muizzu has today flown to Qatar to join the mourning ceremonies. Several other international leaders are also expected to visit Qatar to honour the late former Emir.
