Two people were arrested last night due to them causing unrest during the People's National Congress (PNC) internal election's ballot counting process, with an additional suspect being arrested shortly after.

A police media official stated a 23 year old man and a 24 year old man were the first arrests under a court order, with a separate court order seeking the arrest of a 24 year old man later last night.

A video circulated on social media last night, where an altercation occurred between candidate representatives while the ballot counting process for the North Hulhumale' constituency was being conducted at the Kaamil Didi Primary School.

The video shows them throwing chairs at each other and shouting threats. Property on the premises were damaged during the altercation as well.

After the video was posted, the police stated they have launched an investigation into people going into the school in Hulhumale' Phase 2, damaging the property of said school, and the case of violence between the people there.

PNC's Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah told Mihaaru News last night that the incident occurred due to differences of opinion regarding the ballot count. Falah also said that nothing too serious happened.

"I would not call it unrest. This was a nation-wide election. The biggest internal election within a political party as of yet," said Falah.

"There was a difference of opinion in counting the North Hulhumale' ballot box. It was not something major."

During Saturday's press conference held at PNC's main hub to give information regarding PNC's internal election, Chairperson of the PNC Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that around 40,000 people were eligible to vote in the election, with 85 percent of them having voted, which is around 33,000.
