The police have begun an investigation into former Deputy Minister of the Fisheries Ministry Mohamed Yaseen regarding allegations he took millions in funds from people promising flats and plots under the current government's Boahiyaavahikan schemes.

While the police did not give out any details, they said they have begun investigating a case that was brought to their attention regarding an allegation that funds had been taken from many people after being told flats and plots would be arranged for them.

Sources have said the police are investigating a case involving Yaseen.

He was relieved from his position as the Deputy Minister this month.

Yaseen is being accused of fraudulently obtaining funds from staff from the Fisheries Ministry, judges and the public after stating he will acquire flats and plots for them.

He is being accused of taking MVR 25 million from various individuals, stating he would give flats and plots to them.
