Malé City Council has decided to relaunch the "Veshi Fahi Malé" program to reduce congestion and transform Malé into a pleasant city.

At a public meeting held by the council last night, the development plan for Malé/Vilingilí planned for the next five years was shared and made public.

One component of the plan, which is divided into seven main sections, is the strategy to establish an inclusive green and prosperous city.

The City Council stated that one of the objectives under this effort is to provide solutions to housing issues.

The video shared to present the development plan noted that this includes opening up parks and public squares that are easily accessible to everyone, and restructuring the Veshi Fahi Malé program to clear small alleys in Malé to ease overcrowding.

Under the Veshi Fahi Malé program initiated during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed, land and flats were allocated from Hulhumalé on the condition that the recipients hand over their existing land plots in Malé to the state.

Parking zones were developed on some of the plots surrendered through this process. However, following the change in administration, the Veshi Fahi Malé program came to a halt.

The City Council stated that in addition to the Veshi Fahi Malé program, the redevelopment of the aging Sinamalé and Malé Hiya flats is included in the plan.
