Former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef’s passport was confiscated this week and he has been asked not to go out of the country.

Mihaaru has come to know that Areef’s diplomatic passport was confiscated during this week, but the reason for the travel ban has not been made clear by any authority.

Following the Supreme Court ruling on February 1 to reinstate 12 parliamentarians and release nine key political persons, Areef allegedly did not answer his phone when state leaders called to discuss the developing situation in the country. Attorney General Mohamed Anil announced this in a press conference soon after the ruling and reviled that Areef was removed from post on February 2 due to lack of cooperation.

After removing Areef, Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Saudhee was appointed as the CP. However, he was soon dismissed and Deputy Commissioner Abdulla Navaaz  was appointed as the acting CP.
