A boat traveling from Malé to GDh. Thinadhoo with a cargo load has capsized and begun to sink.

The incident involving the boat named "Jazeera" sinking into the V. Felidhoo western sea was reported to the police at around 3:26pm.

The police stated that four expatriate men and three Maldivian men were traveling on it, and all of them have been picked up by a speedboat named "Villa Dhuveli." However, it is not yet clear whether anyone sustained injuries.

Thinadhoo Mayor Saud Ali told Mihaaru that the boat capsized after being hit by a squall.

He stated that efforts are currently underway to salvage the boat.

"It is capsized. But it has not sunk completely. The owner of that boat has a fishing vessel. That vessel has gone to the site and is working on attaching barrels to the capsized boat," Saud said.

In a video circulating on social media, a part of the boat is seen submerged.
