First Maldivian doctor specialized in diagnosing autism, Dr. Fazna, passes away

Dr. Fazna is the first Maldivian doctor to specialize in diagnosing autism in the Maldives.

Dr. Aminath Fazna, who worked at IGMH as a pediatrician, passed away today.

Although she had been admitted and receiving treatment at IGMH for a short period of time, the cause of death for 47-year-old Fazna remains unclear.

Dr. Fazna, from Kashikeyomaage, GDh. Gaddhoo, rejoined IGMH in 2018 after completing her MBBS and specializing.

Following that, she went to Malaysia in 2021 and studied at the National University of Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, for two years. She studied in the field of developmental pediatrics, which specializes in diagnosing conditions such as autism, at the University of California in the United States, and began consulting patients in 2024 after completing her training.

Dr. Fazna is the first Maldivian doctor to specialize in diagnosing autism in the Maldives.

She is survived by her two daughters.

The funeral prayer for Dr. Fazna will be held tonight after Isha prayer at the Aa Sahara Mosque.
