President Dr Mohamed Muizzu made a site visit today to inspect the progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project. 

The President was accompanied by Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhy. 

The stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Foreign Ministry has had asphalt laid two nights ago. The Housing Ministry has said that asphalt laying work will be completed in the rest of the area under redevelopment - from the Foreign Ministry to the official jetty - by the end of next week. 

The section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the official jetty was closed for redevelopment on March 23. 

MTCC Managing Director Saudhy previously said that the work will be completed and the road opened to public use ahead of Independence Day, July 26.   

The road, which houses several ministries and other offices,  had previously been severely dilapidated, and many faced difficulties in finding parking space on the street. 

Through the redevelopment efforts, Boduthakurufaanu Magu has been widened to twice its previous size. This presents several advantages, including providing a solution to the previous issue of heavy traffic congestion. 

The redevelopment also includes the creation of a new, dedicated parking zone in front of the Bank of Maldives building. 

Prior to this, the stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu from North Harbour to the Republic Square had seen redevelopment. Asphalt was laid, and the road widened, with the area now open for public use. 

The entire Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project, costing MVR 144 million from the State Budget, is projected to be completed within 455 days.
