A Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED) Follow-up Clinic has been opened at Addu Equatorial Hospital with the cooperation of the National Center for Cardiovascular Sciences (NCCS).

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said that the opening of the clinic in Addu is an important step in expanding cardiac care in the region.

The NCCS has been to IGMH with the Equatorial Hospital team, with them conducting six coronary angiograms and two coronary angioplasties. IGMH stated that seven people have been treated, three of them being from Fuvahmulah.

According to IGMH, the services have resulted in an end to patients at the southern region of Maldives having to travel to Maldives for medical treatment. They also said that diagnosis, expediting treatment and making follow-up arrangements will be easier over the long-term.

IGMH went on to say that this effort is tied to the pledge in establishing a national cardiovascular care network.
