A housing project has been decided to be carried out specifically for the employees of Island Aviation, which operates the national airline, Maldivian.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which manages Hulhumalé, has arranged the land required to carry out the project and handed over the site to Island Aviation yesterday.

Managing Director Ali Zuhair signed the agreement on behalf of HDC, while Managing Director Ibrahim Iyaas signed on behalf of Island Aviation.

Iyaas told Mihaaru News that a plot of land measuring over 12,000 square feet has been acquired from the area to construct the flats in Hulhumalé Phase 2.

He stated that practical work will also begin following the handover of the land. However, he noted that the details of the flats to be constructed at the site will be provided later.

Various state-owned enterprises have previously carried out housing projects in Hulhumalé as well. Among them, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) constructed 384 apartments across two towers in Hulhumalé Phase 2. Companies such as Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and STELCO have also constructed flats and handed them over to their employees.
