Two minors have been rescued after they began drowning while swimming in AA. Himandhoo.

Regarding the incident that occurred last Friday, the AA. Atoll Police Station stated in a post on its Facebook page today that two children under the age of 18, who began drowning while swimming on the northern side of Himandhoo, were rescued with the assistance of the police and members of the public.

The post noted that the police received the report of the incident from a woman who was in the area at the time, and when officers arrived at the scene, they witnessed two children drowning approximately 100 meters away from the island's shoreline.

According to the police, Police Constable Ibrahim Nabeeh and Mohamed Aahil, from Dhilaasaage of that island, immediately jumped into the sea to rescue the two children and swam out to save them. The police post included photographs of the Police Constable and the civilian who worked to rescue the children.

An 11-year-old child and a 12-year-old child were rescued in the incident.

The police stated that two additional residents of Himandhoo also provided assistance in bringing the two rescued children back ashore. The police added that with everyone's assistance, the two children were safely brought to land.

The police noted that although the children had swallowed some saltwater during the rescue efforts, their conditions were not serious, and they were doing well.

The police have urged the public to remain cautious when swimming to prevent such incidents and to ensure that children swim under adult supervision.
