42 individuals have applied for the three Civil Court judge positions that are vacant.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced the vacancy of three Civil Court judge positions on 21st June, with the deadline having been reached on 1st July.

The judges appointment was well received within that time, with sources stating that 42 individuals had applied for the position.

When the vacancy for the three Civil Court judge positions were announced, the salary for the position was MVR 37,700, along with an allowance of MVR 22,300, with medical insurance being a part of the salary package as well.

In order to apply as a judge, the applicant needs to have a First Degree in Islamic Sharia, the Law or Law and Islamic Sharia, with at least three years of experience as a judge, a lawyer or both.

There are currently 17 judges in the Civil Court.

When the application for Civil Court judges was announced, the JSC had announced the application for a Criminal Court judge as well.
