The Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has said that the "Cool School" project to install air conditioners in schools is at 61 percent completion.

When Central Hithadhoo Constituency MP Ahmed Azan posed a question regarding the project currently focusing on installing air conditioners at Addu Sharafuddin School during today's Parliament sitting, Minister Shafeeu answered that the project began at a total of 217 schools, with work having finished at 61 percent of the schools.

"We are currently working on upgrading the electrical components and to complete the electricity work in the remaining schools, with the air conditioners already sent to all of the schools," said Shafeeu.

While highlighting they want to finish the project quickly, the minister stated that some schools in Maldives have been around for more than 30 years.

He went on to say that they have faced obstacles due to those schools having single-phase electricity, and the aim is to finish the installation in most of the schools before the start of the second term.

The "Cool School" project where the government is to install air conditioners in the classrooms and halls of every school within two years was inaugurated in June 2024.

An agreement was signed with Fenaka last year to install air conditioners in schools. MVR 54 million was awarded to the company to procure the air conditioners needed for the schools and to finish the project.
