President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has submitted the nomination of former Attorney General Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed to Parliament for approval as the Maldives' Ambassador to the European Union and Belgium.

The nomination was presented to Parliament on Tuesday and has been referred to the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee for review.

Dhiyana served as Attorney General in the first cabinet of former President Mohamed Nasheed. She resigned alongside the rest of Nasheed's cabinet when all ministers stepped down collectively.

She later served as Gender Minister under the administration of former President Dr Mohamed Waheed.

In April, Dhiyana was appointed Ambassador-at-Large, a prerequisite for her appointment as an ambassador because she did not have prior experience in the foreign service.
