A dead 30-foot whale has washed ashore in HA. Hoarafushi.

In a post on Facebook today, the Hoarafushi Council stated that the whale washed up on the reef on the western side of the island.

The Hoarafushi Council also stated that with the assistance of the island council, the police, the MNDF, and the employees at the MTCC site on the island, the whale has now been buried after being removed from the beach area.

The Hoarafushi Council has also released photographs of the whale being removed from the reef, brought ashore, and buried.

The whale was brought ashore by being towed using two dinghies. Following that, photographs show an excavator lifting the whale and burying it in a large pit dug on the island's beach. A large amount of blood can also be seen draining out at the time the whale was removed from the sea.

Dead whales have washed ashore on various islands across the Maldives on previous occasions.
