In a clean up event held by the Male' City Council, 37.7 tonnes of waste has been cleared from various areas of Vilimale'. 

The city council said today that the clean up event was held last Saturday with the intention of protecting the environment and maintaining cleanliness in Vilimale'. Through the initiative, 37.7 tonnes of waste were cleared. 

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim and Vilimale' Councilor Ibrahim Samah participated in the event.

They were joined by members of the Women's Development Committee and senior officials of the city council, as well as all staff members of the Vilimale' section. The Vilimale' Police Station also had representatives join in in the effort. 

The city council said that the initiative brought to attention that much still remains to be done to ensure the cleanliness of the beautiful island is maintained. 

Despite having cleared a large amount of trash in this initiative, the council emphasized that public cooperation is imperative to ensure that the island is continuously kept clean. 

Littering and throwing trash in public spaces and the sea has been a standing issue in Male', Vilimale' and Hulhumale'. 

Housing Development Corporation said last month that under their waste management operations, they have cleared 521 metric tonnes of waste from public places in Hulhumale' between February and May this year.
